"Sinai Calif-Israeli is a photographer of mood and of emotion, a
photographer who uses his camera to capture everyday scenes that
produce sensations and empathy in the heart of the observer.
"His heart fills with appreciation and excitement at the scenery of
human beauty when he stands before the photographic object that he is
describing.
"His eyes are drawn to the elements of artistic documentation
– the correct anatomical structure of a body, deeply
expressive eyes in a variety of human shades and dynamic, gripping body
language.
"There is something primal, naive, spellbinding about the way
Calif-Israeli merges with and focuses on the Tel Aviv street images
that he relates to. The inspiration for the shaping of the photography
derives from an everyday scene that determines a dialogue with the
present reality and with the climate that exists here and now in all
its local components.
"His work as a photographer does not shy away from frank, announced
peeping, from mischievous relating, from a slightly satirical dialogue
with the object being photographed – a Sisyphean task that
immortalizes the Israeli Sabra gesture, body movement and impudent
language that characterize the works.
"Sinai Calif-Israeli walks the streets and beaches, photographs and
documents images that come across his path, some of which he is willing
to invite to a personal professional photo confrontation in the more
intimate and local landscape of his home studio.
"There is something to this co-opting of the public range to the
horizons of his private life. There is a great deal of spectacular
authenticity in his work and that is what makes it unique."

Artist's Profile
Sinai Calif-Israeli was
born and raised in the small town of Gederah. His birth happened during
the Six-Days War. During this time, his father was in the Israeli Army,
enlisted in the Sinai region of what is currently Egypt. And because of
this, he was named "Sinai" by his family. Today, he lives in Tel Aviv.
During the early years,
Sinai had an attraction to photography. It was in photography that he
felt safety to "see the world in a prism".
He learned painting in 2000
at Avny College in Tel Aviv. And from that time and onward he continued
his studies at "Tziloom Yotzer", a photographic studio also in Tel Aviv.
HIs photographic works
depict journalism, sports and social critique.
